Why collect art

Why Do Many People Have an Art Collection?

Many people consider art collection a hobby. Some look for framed themed art works, while others dedicate a portion of their wealth in acquiring art pieces. Some even collect carvings, ceramics, glass art and any other art form that requires moulded materials. In fact, an article from The Atlantic highlighted why some people collect broken antiques.

Spanish artist Pablo Picasso once said “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” But for others, what drives them to collect paintings, sculptures or other art forms?

For aesthetics

People buy art to add visual interest to their homes.
For self-expression It also serves as a means for collectors to express themselves.

For the learning experience.

Some people like to start conversations around art. They enjoy coming up with reasons behind an artist’s preference over a certain brush stroke or the use of certain colours.

For recalling fond memories

An art piece can remind people of the place they grew up in or their first romance. It can stir different emotions in people.

People have various reasons for collecting art, but it all boils down to this: art has the power to bring pleasure within their soul and their vision.
